The United National Party (UNP) celebrated its 70th anniversary with a historic rally at Hyde Park, Colombo, on 10th September 2016, drawing massive crowds and national attention.
In a powerful display of political unity, President Maithripala Sirisena, then the leader of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) – Nidahas Pakshaya, attended the event. Also present was former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, further underscoring the cross-party significance of the occasion.
UNP Leader and then Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe addressed the rally, highlighting the party’s seven decades of democratic leadership, reform, and service to the nation.
