Historic Dalada Wandanawa Begins After 16 Years
Date Started: 18 April 2025 | Location: Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kandy
This photo album captures the first day of the sacred Dalada Wandanawa, which began on 18th April 2025 at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) in Kandy — marking the return of this deeply revered religious tradition after a 16-year hiatus.
From the earliest hours of the morning, a devoted crowd stretching over 8 kilometers gathered in humble reverence, forming long queues that continued through day and night. The streets of Kandy were filled with pilgrims, families, and Buddhist devotees, united in faith and awe, waiting patiently to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha.
The relic is being exhibited for 10 consecutive days, from 12.30 PM to 5.30 PM daily, offering the faithful a rare opportunity to witness and venerate one of Buddhism’s most sacred objects. The atmosphere was filled with spiritual energy, silent prayers, and offerings — a moment of historical significance that will be remembered for generations.
This album documents the beginning of this extraordinary spiritual journey — a day of devotion, tradition, and timeless faith.
