Rugby Spirit on Display in Kandy – NZ U85kg vs Sri Lanka

 

On a vibrant day in Kandy, the historic Nittawela Rugby Stadium came alive as the visiting New Zealand U85kg Men's Rugby Team clashed with Sri Lanka in the first of a two-match series. As a sports photojournalist, I had the front-row opportunity to capture the energy and emotion of the game. Despite Sri Lanka’s best efforts and a spirited performance led by captain Nigel Ratwatte—who added points through a penalty and a conversion—New Zealand dominated the field with a commanding 50–10 victory. This match not only showcased world-class rugby but also marked a meaningful cultural and sporting exchange between the two nations.
